Transformers with expansion tanks have the same core and coil structure as hermetic transformers. The dimensions of the expansion tanks of this type of transformers are designed and manufactured as a result of calculations to store the expansion of the oil whose volume increases with temperature.

Since the transformers with expansion tank are open to the atmosphere, the oil pressure changing due to thermal effects, the air exchange is provided by dehumidifying the air thanks to the clikajel (air dryer) in the transformer tank.

Depending on the load of the transformer with expansion tank put into operation, as a result of the air exchange caused by temperature differences, the glycagel loses its properties over time and causes the oil to moisten and deteriorate its structure. For this reason, it is necessary to perform maintenance such as replacing the silica gel in certain periods and measuring the puncture voltage by taking samples from the oil.

Transformers designed to operate under specific operating conditions, overcurrents, overvoltages and reactive loads for special purposes are called special type transformers. Due to the special operating conditions, the design of these types of transformers is handled specially. Special transformers are considered as the highest point of the transformer sector due to the knowledge, labour experience, care and precision required by both design and production technology.

Dry Type Transformer

According to the cooling method, it differs from oil type transformers. HV windings are transformers coated with epoxy cast resin under vacuum. LV windings are transformers that can be manufactured with both cast resin and resin impregnated prepreg method.

They are produced in the power range 25-25000 kVA, up to 36 kV voltage level, with the option of natural air cooled (AN) or fan cooled (AF). By utilising the cooling fan, the % can achieve a power increase of up to 40%.

Dry type transformer manufacturing, which requires advanced technology and know-how, has been increasing its market share day by day compared to oil type transformers with increasing customer demands in recent years. However, in today's technology, especially the production of large power dry type transformers above 36 kV voltage level involves technological difficulties. Research and development studies on this subject continue at full speed.

Oil Type Transformer

25 - 5000 kVA power range, up to 36 kV high voltage level, three or single phase, oily, natural cooling (ONAN), with idle tap changer or automatic tap changer under load, can be used both externally and internally. Hermetic oil type distribution transformers are manufactured with the principles of balancing the oil pressure and atmospheric pressure at the desired temperature by filling oil under vacuum and preventing the cooling oil from contacting the atmosphere.

In hermetic oil type distribution transformers, internal heat as a result of changing oil pressure due to thermal changes is controlled by natural expansion and contraction of the boiler wave walls. They are mechanically designed and manufactured to withstand these effects.

Hermetic oil type distribution transformers have lower height compared to transformers with expansion tank. Therefore, they can be used in smaller areas.

Since the oil does not come into contact with the atmosphere in hermetic transformers, oil change is not required in certain periods as in transformers with expansion tank.
